God always shows up

blog , ,

I have always believed in God. I started going to church as a baby or very young child. My family became Catholic when I was around 4 years old and I was baptized. I went to a Catholic School through 8th grade. God has always been a apart of my life. I have never questioned his existence.

As I grew up there were time that I wondered how much he cared about the everyday things. I even had a teacher that somewhat scolded my classmates for asking for prayers for minor things.  This didn’t keep me from praying about my desires. As a child that is pretty much what my prayers consisted of, requests and apologies. (I was Catholic and my principal made sure every student felt like everything was our fault!)

Fortunately, my faith has grown and my prayers have changed. I still have a lot of requests, but I feel like my understanding of things has grown. I know God cares about all the big and small things in my life. I know that He has answered prayers that I don’t even know I have yet.

God has shown me time and again how He is faithful and how he answers my prayers, even if they aren’t the immediate answer I was looking for.

One of the first big, smack me in face way he showed me he was providing for me happened in college. I was going to look at an apartment in which the tenants needed a roommate. I needed a place to live, but really did not have money for the deposit. On my way there, a drive decided to make a left turn from the center lane, into my car.  Luckily we were going pretty slow and no one was hurt. My car got crunched. not so bad I couldn’t drive it, but it had a few dents. We had the same insurance company, they paid me to fix it, but just gave me a check and said I could do whatever I wanted with the money. I used it for my deposit and first months rent. God showed up.

There have been times over the years where a situation seemed bad at the time, but those circumstances pushed me in a direction that I would not have gone to otherwise. A few of these have definitely played a big roll in where I am with my full time job. Little pushes here and there to make sure I am where I am supposed to be.

Sometimes, it’s very little things. Recently we were out of coffee creamer. I had some small single serving ones, but really wanted the good stuff. I opened up Facebook and someone in my Buy Nothing group was giving away a full bottle (They had tried it and didn’t like the flavor). They chose me to gift it to. God showed up and provided me with creamer for my coffee.

A few weeks ago my son’s car needed an oil change. I took it in and when I went to pay, the tech asked if I had a credit card with their company. I explained that I had one but I think it got closed due to not using it, he said if I used it then to reactive it, the oil change was free. This was huge! Not that an oil change is a huge amount of money, but the timing could not have been better.

I know God has already resolved every issue and concern I have and haven’t even had yet. God is outside of time. He already knows how it all turns  out. I may not be able to see the path ahead of me, but I know I do not walk it alone. I know God is there and I just need to take the next step that he leads me to.

I’m planning to make this a series. I want to talk about other ways God has shown up. I’d love to hear from others as well. Tell me your God stories.
