The start of school is just around the corner and many kids need to get back on track for going to bed early and waking up early. Sometimes you need to adjust due to time changes or maybe you just want your baby or toddler to sleep at a different time. Here are a few easy things you can do to ease the transition.
Please do not wait until the day you need them to change to start waking them early or expecting them to go to sleep early.
1. Start a week or so before, depending on how much you need to adjust.
2. Wake up your child 15min early the first day. Wake them up at this time for 2-3 days. Continue to increase by 15 min increments until you are at the time you need to wake them up.
3. Put your child to bed 15min early the first day that you wake them 15min early. Continue to put them to bed at the same time for 2-3 days then increase by 15min for another 2-3 days until you have them going to bed at the new time.
Be sure that you are continuing to use your bedtime routine, which should include no electronic devices for 1-2 hours prior to bedtime. The light from these devices interrupts your hormones and disrupts sleep. (For more information read here.)
